1 Corinthians 15:37-38
When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.
A seed and the plant it produces, bear little resemblance to each other. But they are actually the same. According to Paul, the plant simply represents the seed's "resurrected" state. So how do we know if our resurrected bodies will be in some way similar to our physical bodies? Because of what the Bible says about the glorified body of Jesus -- He was recognizable. (Luke 24:31: "Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight." 1 John 3:2: "Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.")
In the same way that a seed is different than the plant it produces, our glorified bodies will be different than our mortal bodies. However, this is not to say that different seeds produce different plants. Wheat seeds don't produce corn, and tomato seeds don't result in orange trees. Each seed produces its own kind. Therefore, humans will not be resurrected as some other creature. We will still be human -- although immortal and incorruptible.
Our passage today got me to thinking about seeds in general, not just what our glorified bodies might be like, but about the seeds we plant as we move through this life. What seeds have you been planting? Are they the ones that lead to immortality or are they as corruptible as this world? What has been your example? What should it be?
