2 Corinthians 5:19a
...that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.
In Philippians 2:10, Paul wrote: "...at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth." Under the earth is a reference to "hell". Now compare this verse to Colossians 1:20: "...and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." Notice the difference? Every knee will bow, whether in heaven, on the earth, or under the earth, but hell is not reconciled to God. Only heaven and earth are reconciled.
Continuing on in Colossians to verses 21-22, we find the death of Jesus is what reconciled the world: "Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation." There is another subtlety I would like to point out, notice that it is not God who is reconciled -- He never changes. It is the world that has been placed in a different position. So what's different? Christ died and has been raised to life! So when we are in Christ, we become holy in His sight.
Is there someone you know who needs to know of God's love and forgiveness? Will you share God's plan today? God loves us and wants to have a relationship with us. Will you introduce a friend, family member, co-worker or neighbor Jesus?
