“Don't Forget What God Has Done!”

2 Corinthians 1:10

He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us?

Thoughts for Today:

I absolutely love this verse. Here's what it says: First, God has delivered us in the past; second, He is in the process of delivering us right now; and finally, He will continue to deliver us in the future. Do you have any doubts? Think back to last year. What was going on? What were you worried about?

Several months ago, a friend shared his anxiety with me: "I'm going to lose my job and I'm not going to be able to find a new one; my good credit is finished; I'm done, I don't know what to do." It was a pretty bleak scenario. But God had a different plan. Today, my friend laughs at some of the things he said. At least now that he has a new job he loves, and the problems of the past year are behind him.

It's true for most of us. Yet, if we don't stop to search our memories for the things that were causing us such great concern, we forget. Why? Because the Lord delivered us. He guided us through the wilderness. He fed us. He clothed us. He sustained us. And He gave us hope. He alone is faithful. I think one of the greatest challenges to our spiritual growth is our tendency to forget what God has done. To forget how He has consistently -- year in and year out -- delivered us from all the things we thought would never work out. Our Lord is good! (Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.")

Questions to Ponder:

I keep an on-going record of what troubles me. Every month I pull it out to make a few notes, and then review how God has resolved my past concerns. It's a great testimony of God's faithfulness to me. However, there is another substantial benefit: My own spiritual growth. When I see God's hand upon my life -- day in, day out, and year after year -- how can I respond in any way except to love and trust Him? Will you keep a record of what concerns you have? Will you allow God to show you how He has, and will continue to, deliver you as well?
