“"The Deity of Christ"”

Ephesians 3:9c

... which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.

Thoughts for Today:

In Isaiah 44:24, the Lord states: "I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself." We also read in John 1:3: "In the beginning was the Word [Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." God alone stretched out the heavens and spread the earth, yet Jesus created all things. As a result, there is only one reasonable conclusion we can come to -- these verses (including our passage today) confirm the deity of Jesus Christ and the unity of the Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The following are some additional verses from the Old Testament that refer to God, which also in the New Testament refer to Jesus:

(OT) Isaiah 44:6: "This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God." (NT) Revelation 1:17-18: "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.'"

(OT) Isaiah 40:3: "A voice of one calling: 'In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'" (NT) Mark 1:3: "A voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"

(OT) Numbers 21:5-6: "They spoke against God and against Moses, and said, 'Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!' Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died." (NT) 1 Corinthians 10:9: "We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes."

(OT) Joel 2:32: "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls." (NT) Romans 10:13: "For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"

(OT) Isaiah 45:23: "By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. (NT) Philippians 2:10-11: "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Questions to Ponder:

The deity of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. If He is reduced to a mere prophet, historical figure, teacher, etc, it destroys the most important reason He came to earth -- to die for us. If He is not God, then we are not saved. Have you allowed the world to reduce Jesus in your eyes? What will you do to correct your perception?
