“Free Indeed!”

1 Corinthians 2:16

...for, "Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Thoughts for Today:

Philippians 2:5 (KJV): "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." So what's the benefit of having the mind of Christ? Jesus said in John 8:31-36: "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free... Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." Think about it like this: when I live like the world, I'm a slave to sin; yet, when I live like a servant of God, I am truly free.

A servant to sin is one who commits sin (verse 34). When we do so, we're in bondage, not to man, but to sin. Conversely, when we hold to Christ's teaching (verse 31) and live by His commands, we know the truth (verse 32). And when we are His disciples, He sets us free (verse 36). Galatians 5:1: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Paul was talking about Jewish legalism, but we also know that sin enslaves us.)

So how do we know we have the mind of Christ? Because He lives in us by His Spirit and He's given His Word to us in the Scriptures.

Questions to Ponder:

Why is our freedom from the bondage of sin so important to having the mind of Christ? Because when we have the mind of Christ we have focused attention. We don't wander aimlessly around lost in lust, ambition, pride, jealousy and all those things that bind us to the world. Where is your mind now? Are you paying attention to God, to His Word, to prayer, and to His Spirit? God's desire is for our freedom. What is His voice saying to you now?
